The Other Side of Mars was screened as part of a lecture series Landscape Revisited at the Helsinki University of Arts, organized by professor and artist Sigrid Sandström. Biography

Minna Långström is a filmmaker and moving image artist from Helsinki, FinlandHer practice spans from scriptwriting, directing short fiction, 3D animation and documentary films to multi channel art film installations. Questions of point of view, perception, and technologically mediated and cinematic narratives and their influences on the past and present are some recurring themes in her body of work. In both her films and installations the intuitive, active experience of the viewer is a central aspect.

Her recent documentary The Other Side of Mars (56 min, napafilms 2019), was the recipient of the Testimony on Knowledge Award at Jihlava IDFF among other awards and was screened at international film festivals such as Bergen IFF,  DocPoint and Helsinki International Film Festival and at the prestigious 55th International Science Film Festival Olomouc, New York Imagine Science and ParisScience Fim Festival. Her feature screenplay was picked for the 28th eQuinoxe International Screenwriters’ Workshop in Germany, fall 2023. 

Her installation work has been exhibited at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Frankfurter Kunstverein and Nassauisher Kunstverein as well as in galleries such as Helsinki Kunsthalle in Finland, Interaccess Gallery in Toronto, and Kunstfort Vijhusen in The Netherlands. She is a grantee of the William Thuring Award by the Finnish Art Society, 2017 and her work has been acquired for the Finnish National Gallery collection. 

Minna Långström holds an MFA from the University of the Arts Helsinki Helsinki, including exchange studies at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA. She has additional work experience of film production through her own production company 2002-2007, film festival work and teaching as assistant professor in Moving Image at the University of the Arts Helsinki 2008-2012. Residences for artistic work include London Space Studios, IASPIS (Nifca), Stockholm and FACT, Liverpool.
